Beneath the light from our inner moons
imperfections are visible,
the ones easy to see
and those we try to conceal within,
when we’re standing in love.

Quenching thirst,
he coerced.
Love disbursed,
he reversed.
Future cursed.
Love once bound,
now unwound,
hits the ground.
Quite profound
lonely sound.

A hello kiss
sets my heart on fire.
A farewell kiss
reduces it
to ash.

This love is drawn
with pastels blended
seamlessly, unlike the
one before where chalk
was deliberately smeared.

Was Paris what two lovers saw
while breathing in the way it seemed?
Was romance part of springtime’s thaw
or only what two people dreamed?
They met outside a French café
then walked together to the Louvre.
They talked and laughed along the way,
these strangers without much to prove.
So, walking on, love unexplored,
afraid of messages they’d send,
in silent prayer they each implored
the Champs-Elysées to never end.
Was Paris what two lovers saw
or only what two people dreamed?

Breathless
in the presence
of a love so perfect,
my composure can’t be regained.
I am a poet without any words
who can only speak in silence
through a tender embrace,
content to be
breathless.

My reflection stares
at me through the looking glass
deep within your eyes.

In an instant, it is over and done
with each of us weary from the battle.
Two adults skirmished and nobody won.
Sound arguments become senseless prattle.
Close quarters can easily breed contempt
with each of us weary from the battle.
Even the strongest pair are not exempt.
Relationships are frequently like that.
Close quarters can easily breed contempt.
We’ve grown to understand it’s just a spat.
It does not define the couple we are.
Relationships are frequently like that.
Only a blemish which won’t leave a scar,
we will always walk away friends because
it does not define the couple we are.
Frustrations are part of natural laws.
In an instant, it is over and done.
We will always walk away friends because
two adults skirmished and nobody won.

I’m so honored to have this poem make the Terzanelle Form Challenge’s Top Ten list at Robert Lee Brewer’s Poetic Asides Blog on WritersDigest.com. It’s humbling to be included with such incredibly talented poets.
Hearts collide
on predetermined course.
Powerful force
raising. Blazing,
dazing,
utterly amazing.

Written for the 10/22/14 prompt at Creative Bloomings “Inform Poets” to write a Lanterne. Clearly, I got carried away.
